Program news: winter countings were carried out in Altai Republic December 29, 2009

The main study site is the south slopes of the Kurai Ridge (in the Chuya and Kurai intermountain depressions). The local people were interviewed also about Pallas' Cat.

Zabaikalsky Krai: manuls are being watched July 25, 2009

The radio-tracking. Photo by Alina BaranovaIt's the second field season that manuls of nature reserve "Daursky" are being observed. Last year, the reserve's zoologist Vadim Kiriliuk suggested to watch a one-year-old female manul that should have been giving birth shortly. There were several other females with radio collars, but this one was chosen due to the convenience of her location - she made her den right under the abandoned camp building.

Altai Republic: here comes Manul, the wild cat April 13, 2009

In the Kosh-Agach region of the Altai Republic the results of the contest 'Manul the rare steppe cat' were announced. This was the contest of the ecological projects and drawings announced by the Siberian Environmental Center in February 2009. More than 70 works were received.

Program news: New research project was supported February 20, 2009

The project "Pallas' Cat in Altai mountain area: to update a conservation status" was supported by the Panthera Small Cat Action Fund (USA). This project aims to obtain more specific information about Pallas' Cat number and distribution and to analyze the threats to the cat in Altai mountain area.

It has been decided to create a new nature reserve in Altai on the meeting of the Government of the Altai Republic. The new reserve named "The Sailughem" will be situated in Kosh-Agachski district of Republic. It will consist of two parts and include places of high conservation value for many endangered species.

Pallas cat's tracks were found straight away after setting the blanket of snow on the hills of the north side of the Zun-Torey lake. The female was catched there soon.

On November 17, 2005 there was a presentation of the book "Animals of Altai" by G.G. Sobansky in Gorno-Altaisk State University. There were the representatives from the administration, scientific society and the press, the students of GASU. Dr. Genrikh G. Sobansky, the famous scientist and eminent biologist, summarized data on big mammals of Altai Mountains.
