The Environmental Protection Service has supported the suggestion of NGO Siberian Environmental Center to include Pallas' Cat to the list of species which are annually counted by specialists of the Game Agency. While Pallas' Cat is listed into Russian national Red Data Book from 1978 there is no actual information on its distribution and number. Paradoxically red listing led to stopping regular censuses of Pallas' Cat: the cat was excluded from list of game species and so the Game Agency and hunter organizations stopped to census it while the Environmental Protection Service has no money and specialists for counting any species and is unable to do it. Including Pallas Cat to annual censuses will allow to monitor this wild cat populations.
The letter signed by Oleg Mitvol, the deputy director of the Environmental Protection Service, was sent to regional departments as well as the instructions for the governing bodies of the protected areas Pallas Cat inhabits to study this species thoroughly on site.
